After finishing my studies in the College of Fine Arts Chandigarh, I left for France in 1984 on  a French Govt. scholarship. It was a great opportunity from 1984 to 1989 to study painting and lithography at the Ecole National des Beaux-arts in Paris. France is where I live and work now.

Arriving from that horizon was a journey from the known to the unknown, past to the present and present to future. Meeting of different positive energies, different environments, cultures, thoughts, expressions, logics, contradictions, techniques and time created a line in between like the horizon. This is where the Sun God which is the circle of energy and geometry of life rises or sets and  creates  a silver, copper or golden line between two different matters earth and sky, solid and emptiness, dark and light, known and unknown shores. Dusk and twilight which  in Hindi is called Sandhya are the very particular moments with a magic spell when darkness almost obliterate falls on and the very first ray of light reappears.

Beginning is the end of something and the end is beginning. Both the moments creating different lights and fields of colours leave emotional print and regular adding to the human perception and perspective. I create works not copying the nature but learning from it. For me, the series Horizon is an expression of both hope and positive energy. Painting has given me a chance to feel, think and see so many different Horizons, environments and cultures, hope and positive energy at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day just like the bright line created by the sunlight between sky and earth connects us all, no matter how different we are.

I create my work with pure pigments and resin binders applying a very thin layer over the half dry layers to get the tones and transparency. Applying colour layers this way helps to let see one colour through the other like veils .Up to some extent non mixing of pigments this way keeps alive memory and charm of each colour. Having worked as a print maker for a few years helped me in applying colours different way.
